WINGATE, N.C. – The No.18 Anderson University men's lacrosse team is getting set for the third and final game of their road trip when they travel to take on the No.5 ranked Wingate Bulldogs.
The Trojans enter Saturday's contest on a two-game losing streak with losses to Newberry (17-12) and North Greenville (10-5). Prior to that, Anderson was riding a five-game winning streak including a win over nationally ranked Limestone in OT (15-14).
Scouting the Wingate Bulldogs
Wingate will enter the game well-rested after a 10-day layoff between matches. The Bulldogs have won eight games in a row, including an impressive 16-10 victory on the road at No.4 Lenoir-Rhyne. Willie Grieco and Johnny Caponi were named the SAC Varsity Gems Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Specialist Players of the Week for their efforts in the victory.
Grieco, the preseason National Player of the Year, had four goals and five assists on the night. Grieco is the national leader in assists per game and ranking second in points per game. The senior attacker was also named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, which is the honor that goes to the top player in all of college lacrosse.
Caponi, the Wingate goalkeeper, finished with a career-high 18 saves to lead the Bulldogs to the upset win over the Bears. Lenoir-Rhyne lead the SAC with 17 goals per game, but thanks to the play of Caponi, Wingate held L-R to only 10 scores.
Opening faceoff is set for 12:00 noon on Saturday (Apr. 8) with video and live stats available at autrojans.com.
