Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ANDERSON, S.C. – No. 14 Anderson University softball (8-0) picked up two good wins over nonconference opponent Young Harris (3-2), winning game one 3-0, and holding on in game two to win, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

"Not pretty win, but we will take these two wins and put them in our pocket and go on to the next series," said head coach Tommy Hewitt.

Junior Laken Maxwell (3-0) earned the game one victory, scattering three hits and striking out six Mountain Lions.

The Trojans took advantage of a throwing error to score two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Anderson would add a solo run in the bottom of the third on a two-out single by senior Olivia Wheeler, scoring Hannah Whitaker from third.

Freshman Carson Hobbs (3-0) toed the rubber for game two, pitching six innings. Hobbs gave up eight hits (three in the sixth inning) and three runs while striking out two batters. Junior Lane Edgington earned her first save of the season after entering the game in the top of the seventh inning with the score, 4-3, and with runners on first and second. The first batter she faced was called out after her bunted ball hit the bat in fair territory. With one out, Edgington was able to end the game with a classic 6-4-3 ground ball.

"Proud of Lane Edgington coming in to close," stated Hewitt.

On the day, Anderson combined for 8 runs on 18 hits. Freshman Lauren Brakovec went 3-for-3 on the day with two doubles. Wheeler, seniors Morgan Charter,Kayson Boatner and junior Hannah Whitaker each went 2-for-3 with Boatner adding one more home run to her career total. Sophomore Madison McDonald batted 1-for-3 with a double in game one.

"I am left with thoughts of how do you get 11 hits, in game two, and only score four runs," added Hewitt.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 pm.
