Box Score 2 MARS HILL, N.C. – After an eight day layoff, No. 24 Anderson University softball (19-3, 3-1 SAC) won its third straight South Atlantic Conference game sweeping Mars Hill (3-13, 0-4 SAC), winning game one, 4-2 and game two, 10-2 (6), Friday afternoon at Ponder Field.
In game one, sophomore hurler Laken Maxwell (11-2) pitched a stellar seven inning complete game. Maxwell scatted three hits, while striking out 18 of the 26 batters she faced. The Trojan lineup provided enough run support to help Maxwell to her 11th win of the season.
Senior Harlie Duncan (7-1) pitched a solid six innings, giving up six hits and striking out five to pick up the win in game two, 10-2(6).
"What more can be said about the day," said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "Laken stuck out 18 of the 26 batters she face…just an amazing day for number 15. Jess also had a terrific day going 4-of-6 including 2 doubles and a home run. Harlie pitched well only giving up six hits with tons of run support."
On the day, the Trojans collected 18 hits, resulting in 14 total runs. Of the 18 hits, eight were for extra bases…six doubles and two home runs.
Senior Jessica Neadow (4-for-6) drilled two doubles and a home run, driving in two RBI. Juniors Olivia Rose Wheeler, Hope Gullatt and freshman Maddie Carpenter picked up two hits each on the day. Seniors Kayson Boater, Gracie Williams, Sydney Belcher and Carpenter joined Neadow in the extra base hit category with Boatner hitting two doubles, Williams and Carpenter with one double apiece and Belcher a home run.
No. 24 Anderson returns to action on Tuesday against nonconference opponent Emmanuel. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
