Short-Handed Trojans Fall at 11th-Ranked Queens

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – While already facing an uphill task on the road, the Anderson men's basketball team was missing a pair of starters and with a shortened bench, the Trojans dropped a 101-70 decision to preseason conference favorite and 11th-ranked Queens, in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action, Wednesday night at Curry Arena.

Anderson slipped to 7-8 overall and 4-7 in the league, while suffering its third straight setback. Queens (13-2, 9-2 SAC), the preseason league favorite, won its sixth consecutive outing and swept the regular season series.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Guard Crosby James II led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting accuracy from the field. The junior from Columbia, S.C., connected of 5-of-6 treys on the night. Forward Parker Dortch added 11 points, while freshman guard Myles Jenkins netted 10 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Freshman guard Collin Mills scored nine points, grabbed three rebounds and handed out a pair of assists. Junior guard Mason Carver recorded four rebounds and dished out three assists on the night.

Sophomore forward Jamari Smith led five Royals in double figures with 19 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
With the Trojans holding a 13-10 lead at the 15:17 mark, Queens scored six of its next 10 points from the charity stripe, then used a 12-4 surge to claim a 32-23 advantage with less than six minutes left in the half.

AU stayed close and climbed back within 39-33 on a 3-pointer from the right wing from Mills, but the Royals edged back out to a double-digit, 49-38, halftime lead.

Second Half
Three of Queens' first four baskets in the second half came from beyond the arc and the Royals stretched their lead to as many as 34 late in the game.

STAT OF THE NIGHT
Queens was 22-of-25 (88.0%) from the free throw line, while AU was 9-of-21 (42.9%) from the charity stripe.

NOTABLES
• The Trojans' 42.9% free throw accuracy was their lowest percentage of the season.
• Queens has won five straight over the Trojans and improved to 37-10 all-time against the Black and Gold.
• The Trojans were playing their fifth game of the season against a top-25 ranked team and were aiming for their second win of the season against a ranked squad.
• AU's win/loss margin in seven of its previous eight games had been by an average of 3.0 points.
• Crosby James equaled his season high with five 3-pointers.

The Trojans will look to get back on track when Wingate invades the Abney Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off vs. the Bulldogs is slated for 4 p.m.
