Trojans Sweep Georgia College; Highlighted by Charter's Grand Slam

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson softball enjoyed a nonconference sweep over Georgia College winning game one, 6-2, followed by a game two victory, 5-4, highlighted by sophomore Morgan Charter's grand slam on Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Anderson improves to 6-4 overall while the Bobcats drop to 1-7 overall.

The Trojans used seven hits to score six runs with five of those runs coming in the bottom of the first inning.

Charter batted 1-for-2 with a solo homerun while sophomore Gracie Williams also went 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBI. Senior Meghan Majeski and freshman Yas Laureano each with 2-for-3 with Laureano hitting a double to left center.

Anderson junior Sarah Middleton (2-2) pitched a complete game giving up eight hits while striking out three.

Georgia College's Rebecca Lawrence (0-1) was tagged with the loss while being lifted after two thirds innings pitched. Amber Coy pitched the final 5.1 innings giving up four hits and one earned run.

Anderson led 1-0 through 4 complete innings before Bobcat Hannah Rogers solo shot, in the fifth innings, evened the score at, 1-1.

Majeski and Williams each collected two hits while sophomore Kayson Boatner, freshman Maggie Massey and Charter each were credited with one hit.

Charter's heroics came in the bottom half of the fifth inning after the bases were loaded on three straight infield singles. (Majeski, Williams and Massey). Charter drilled the pitch over the left center fence putting the Trojans ahead, 5-4.

Georgia College responded back in the top half of the sixth inning. The Bobcats managed a three-spot using three hits and an error to narrow the Black and Gold's lead to one run. Anderson was able to retire the side in order in the seventh to secure the victory.

Junior Kayla Pepper (2-2) gave up five hits while striking out seven.

Mackenzie Michels (0-1) suffered the loss giving up six hits and five earned runs.

EXTRA BASES

"I was pleased with how in both games we set the tone early, playing with high energy and intensity", said head coach Tommy Hewitt. "Morgan Charter really came thru for the team with a jacked grand slam."

 UP NEXT

Anderson will hit the road for a six-game road swing which begins on Thursday at nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan. First pitch is slated for 4 pm.
