Softball Earns Spilt with Lenoir-Rhyne

Anderson, S.C.- Anderson University softball split a South Atlantic Conference twinbill versus Lenoir-Rhyne dropping the first game, 4-2, while winning the nightcap, 9-1 (5 innings), on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

With the split, Anderson moves to 18-12 overall and 2-4 in conference play while the Bears move to 16-10 overall and 1-2 in SAC action.

Lenoir-Rhyne used several Trojans miscues to push across four runs, two in the third inning and two in the sixth inning.

Anderson cut the lead in half scoring two runs in the bottom half of the sixth, but went down in order in the seventh inning to fall 4-2.

Notables

Seniors Kasey Grant and Joshlyn Martin recorded the only two Trojan hits. Both ripped back-to-back doubles with Martin driving in two runs.

Lenoir-Rhyne's Brandi Parks (12-5) pitched a solid two-hit game walking just three while striking out nine.

Anderson's Kayla Pepper (8-8) was tagged with the loss giving up seven hits while striking out six.

Anderson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead before the Bears scored a lone run in the top half of the second inning to even the score at 1-1.

The Black and Gold exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the second knocking out the Bears starting pitcher. Anderson added one run in the third, two in the fourth and the game-ending run in the fifth to secure its 18th win of the season.

Notables

Martin added four more hits to her outing by going 4-for-4 with a double and triple in game two. Junior Meghan Majeski went 1-for-2 scoring two runs for the Black and Gold. Sophomore Mattison Cantrell batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored. Freshman Kayson Boatner batted 2-for-3 with a single and homerun driving across two while crossing the plate twice.

AU's Harlie Duncan (10-4) pitched a gem allowing just three hits in the five inning complete game.

Anderson returns to action on Wednesday when it host SAC foe Carson-Newman. First-Pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2pm
