Softball Overpowers Converse

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University softball team overpowered Converse in a nonconference doubleheader sweep, moving the Trojans to 4-0 on the season, winning game one, 10-0 (5 innings) and game two, 8-0 (6 innings) on Tuesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

GAME #1

Anderson 10, Converse 0 (5 innings)

INSIDE THE BOX

Leading the Trojans at the plate were sophomore Meghan Majeski and junior Breanna Hagerty going 2-for-2 at the plate. Hagerty ripped a double and a home run. Junior Kasey Grant went 1-for-1 with two hit-by-pitch and a double while junior Joshlyn Martin batted 1-for-2 with a single and sacrifice fly. Sophomores Ali Anderson and Mattie Hamilton each belted a homerun.

Freshman Harlie Duncan (2-0) got the nod in game one picking up her second win of the season. Duncan pitched a five inning complete game giving up just two hits while striking out three.

Converse's Marissa Steadman (0-2) suffered the loss for the Valkyries in four innings of work. Steadman gave up nine hits and 10 runs.

GAME #2

Anderson 8, Converse 0 (6 innings)

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Leading the Trojans at the plate, Majeski, freshmen Abi Webb and Mackenzie Haver and Anderson each picked up a hit in two or less at-bats. Senior Cailah Niles went 2-for-4 including three RBI.

Freshman Kayla Pepper (1-0) pitched a solid six innings to earn her first win of her career. Pepper only allowed one hit while striking out seven.

Valkyries Jena Massing (0-1) picked up her first loss in five and a third innings pitched. Massing gave up nine hits and eight runs.

Out of the 18 total hits on the day, the Trojans recorded four doubles and four home runs.
