ANDERSON, S.C. - Senior Molly Child and sophomore Cailah Niles
combined for five base hits in game two, including three for extra
bases with one being a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh
by Niles, to win the nightcap, 3-2.
The Trojans split with nonconference opponent Barton of
Conference Carolinas, falling 9-7 in 10 innings in the opener and
winning game two of the doubleheader, 3-2.
The Black and Gold moves to 17-5 on the season with the split
while Barton holds a 6-13 overall record.
Game #1
Barton 9, Anderson 7
Despite scoring five runs in the bottom half of the second inning,
the Trojans could not hold on for the victory dropping game one,
9-7, in 10 innings.
Barton got on the scoreboard first scoring one run in the top of
the first while Anderson took advantage of three walks and four
singles to take a 5-1 lead after two innings. The Bulldogs scored
three in the top of the third and one in the top half of the sixth
to knot the score up at fives. Both Barton and Anderson scored one
apiece in the eighth and ninth innings to post a 7-7 tie heading
into the 10th frame.
The Bulldogs scored two runs after sending eight batters to the
plate. The Trojans could not push any runs across despite leading
the inning off with a single.
Anderson's Randee Bettis took the loss for the Trojans with six
innings to her credit. Bettis struck out seven while giving up six
hits in her first defeat of the season.
Barton's Liz White pitched the entire 10 innings to pick up her
fourth win of the season.

Anderson 3, Barton 2
The Trojans scored first in game two when Child ripped a triple to
center field in the bottom half of the first inning. Niles followed
with an RBI double to left center to put the Black and Gold up 1-0.
Anderson quickly scored its second run when freshman Michaela Smith
hit a one-out single to left field later scoring on a single up the
middle by Child.
The Bulldogs held the Trojans scoreless over the next few
innings while they were able to scratch out two runs during that
same period to tie the game going into the seventh inning. Anderson
was able to record three quick outs with a pop up, ground out and
throwing out the leadoff batter trying to steal second after
reaching first on an infield single.
Smith led the inning off with a ground out followed by a single
to left field by shortstop Carli Hurtado. Barton was able to retire
Child setting up Niles to rip a two-out walk-off double to left
center field, scoring Hurtado from first base.
Anderson's Lauren Rudesheim pitched a complete game, scattering
seven hits while picking up her ninth win of the season for the
Black and Gold.
Anderson returns to action on Sunday to wrap up its 16-game
homestand when it welcomes Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association opponent Johnson C. Smith to the AU Softball Complex.
First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
