ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson's Jessica Neidigh was tabbed the
AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week,
while teammate Chelsea Jones was named the AstroTurf South Atlantic
Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the
conference office Tuesday morning.
Neidigh was 8-for-15 (.533) at the plate last week to help lead
the Trojans to a perfect 4-0 record with sweeps of archrival
Erskine and Lenoir-Rhyne in the conference opener for both the
Trojans and Bears. The second baseman posted a 1.400 slugging
percentage after posting three home runs, two doubles, a
run-scoring triple and a pair of singles on the week. She scored
five times and drove in seven runs.
Neidigh currently leads the league in runs scored (29) and is
second in hits (34), triples (2), home runs (7), total bases (65)
and stolen bases (10), while ranking sixth in the league with a
.425 batting average and a .500 on-base percentage. The Trojans
lead-off hitter is a perfect 10-of-10 in stolen bases on the
season.
Jones earned a pair of wins and a save in the circle, while
striking out nine batters and did not issue a walk. The
right-hander scattered 12 hits over 15 1/3 innings and allowing
just two earned runs in three appearances. Her ERA was just 0.91 on
the week and tossed her first shutout of the season in a 6-0 win
over Erskine.
Jones ranks third in the league with a 1.34 ERA and leads the
conference with three saves. Offensively, Jones posted a .600
on-base percentage while drawing a team-high seven walks in the
four games. She added a pair of singles and drove in a run while
scoring three times.
