DUE WEST, S.C. - After Erskine crossed nine runs after the first two innings, Anderson University baseball was unable to recover as Erskine claimed a half-point in the Beville Cup standings with a 19-2 win Tuesday afternoon at a chilly Grier Field.

With the setback, the Trojans snap a five-game winning streak and drop to 6-5 on the season, while the Flying Fleet remained perfect on the season and improve to 9-0 for the year.

AU managed five hits for the contest, as junior first baseman Steven Cooper finished 2-for-4 on the day with a pair of singles and an RBI. Designated hitter LJ Newman and middle infielder Kyle Bailey added a hit apiece, while Bailey scored a run and Newman recorded an RBI. Graduate student Nick Bernardo tallied AU's final hit of the day with the team's lone double.

The Fleet clubbed six home runs on the day as the trio of Zach Smith, Logan Galliher and Richard Dix knocked two home runs apiece, as the Fleet totaled 17 hits on the day. Teammates Brandon Wooten and Chase Watts added three hits apiece as every player in the starting batting order recorded at least one hit.

The Trojans crossed the first two runs of the game when Cooper singled and drove home Bailey who earlier recorded the game's first hit with a single. On the next at-bat, Newman flew out to center field, but the sacrifice fly scored Garrett Bernardo who walked in his plate appearance, which handed the visitors a quick 2-0 advantage.

After the top-half of the first, Erskine used two hits to score three runs to earn its first lead. The one-run advantage was all starting pitcher Kyle Foster needed as he tossed 7.2 innings and allowed just five hits and struck out two AU hitters. Foster added his team-high third win of the season, as relievers Terry Hall and Joe Johnson closed the door on the Trojans in eighth and ninth innings.

Anderson looks to get back on the winning track on Wednesday when it heads to North Greenville. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
