ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team wrapped up its regular season on Sunday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium, but was unable to push a run across in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of nationally ranked Lenoir-Rhyne, falling 9–0 in Game One and 7–0 in Game Two.
Game One Recap – Lenoir-Rhyne 9, Anderson 0
Despite the shutout, Anderson had several key opportunities to score early. They were able to move a runner into scoring position in the second, but a quick pair of outs stranded the early chance. Again in the third the Trojans were able to move a runner into scoring position, however this time with two away in the frame, with a strikeout bringing that chance to a close.
The best chance of the afternoon came in the bottom of the sixth inning as Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) blasted a double down the left field line and was moved to third on a fly-out with just one away. However, the Trojans stranded him there as a pair of strikeouts from the Bear's hurler ended the frame.
Anderson finished with four hits scattered across four different batters.
Game Two Recap – Lenoir-Rhyne 7, Anderson 0
The Trojans opened Game Two with traffic on the bases once again. In the first inning, Carson Molinaroli singled and Brooks Mauro (Clemson, S.C.) walked to load the bases with one out, but a ground ball double play ended the rally.
In the second inning, Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) singled and stole second, and Shane Thomas (Blythewood, S.C.) followed with a single to put runners at the corners. However, the Bears picked off Thomas and escaped without damage.
Anderson collected seven hits in the finale, with Wells and Owens each recording multi-hit games, but the Trojans stranded six runners and were 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
The Trojans end their season with a record of 24–25 and an 11–19 clip in league action.
