INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On the eve of the Food Lion South Atlantic
Conference Tournament, the Anderson University softball team
remains steadfast at second in the Southeast Region in the NCAA's
second Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday
afternoon.
Anderson (38-10), which claimed a share of the South Atlantic
Conference regular-season title last weekend, while setting a
school record for regular-season victories, held on to the second
spot in the rankings, just behind nationally fifth-ranked North
Georgia. Joining the Trojans in the regional rankings are fellow
South Atlantic Conference members Lenoir-Rhyne, which dropped from
third to fourth and Wingate, which jumped two spots from seventh to
fifth.
Lincoln Memorial, which was not in the initial rankings a week
ago, makes an appearance at No. 8 this week. Carson-Newman slipped
one spot from ninth to 10th, while Catawba, which was eighth a week
ago, dropped out of this week's rankings after suffering a
five-game skid to close out the regular season.
The Saints held on to the top spot for the second consecutive
week, while fellow Peach Belt Conference-member Armstrong Atlantic
State, ranked 18th nationally in the latest NFCA Coaches' Poll,
moved from fourth to third, swapping spots with L-R. The Bears were
ranked 12th in the latest NFCA Poll. USC Aiken and Georgia College,
both from the Peach Belt, each slipped one spot to sixth and
seventh, respectively in the regional rankings.
Columbus State, which was unranked a week ago, rounds out the
Southeast Region rankings at No. 9.
The NCAA's regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on
Wednesdays through April 30, with the NCAA D-II Tournament
selections scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, May 5 at 10
a.m.
In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South
Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will
receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with five more
at-large selections.
