Trojan Softball Opens SAC Slate by Dropping Two at Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. -The Lenoir-Rhyne Softball Team (14-5, 2-0 SAC) opened South Atlantic Conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Anderson (19-5, 0-2 SAC), 3-1 and 4-0, Saturday afternoon at Bears Field.

Game One - Lenoir-Rhyne 3, Anderson 1
L-R freshman pitcher Brandi Hole allowed just one hit while going the distance in the win.

Hole allowed just a solo home run to Anderson's Danielle Swygert in the seventh inning and finished with three strikeouts while improving to 7-3 on the season.

Lenoir-Rhyne scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first inning highlighted by a lead-off home run from junior outfielder Jody Mizelle and a run-scoring double by sophomore designated player Katie Carpenter.

Anderson's Lauren Bell fell to 11-2 on the year after suffering the loss on the mound.

Game Two - Lenoir-Rhyne 4, Anderson 0
L-R freshman Maryann Hoskins threw her third straight shutout to lead the Bears to the sweep. Hoskins (6-2) allowed just three hits to go along with six strikeouts en route to the win.

L-R broke a scoreless tie with a three-run third inning which included a two-run double from junior third baseman Haily Jarman.

Jarman finished with three hits and two runs batted in while Anderson's Bailey Smith fell to 8-3 after being tagged with the loss.

Lenoir-Rhyne remains at home on Monday when the Bears host USC Aiken in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. Anderson hosts Erskine on Monday at 3:00 p.m., in a doubleheader as well.
