HARROGATE, Tenn. - Sophomore Jessica Neidigh was a perfect
9-for-9 at the plate, including two doubles and a triple, but the
Anderson softball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference
doubleheader, 5-3 and 8-3, at Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon
at Neely Field.
Anderson (30-8, 7-5 SAC) lost back-to-back decisions for just
the third time this season and has dropped three of its last four.
Lincoln Memorial improved to 23-16 overall and 5-7 in the
league.
Game #1
Lincoln Memorial 5, Anderson 3
Neidigh was 4-for-4 in the opener, posting two singles, a double
and a triple while driving in a run and scoring twice. Junior Laura
Jansky was 2-for-3, with a pair of singles and junior Danielle
Swygert added two singles and drove in a run.
Junior Bailey Smith (14-4) took the loss for Anderson,
surrendering five runs (two earned) on nine hits over six innings.
She struck out five and walked just one.
Kelly Dreir led the Lady Railsplitters with a two-for-three
performance that included two runs. Amanda Snow added two RBI with
a home run.
Kirstin Toole picked up the win for the Lady Railsplitters after
tossing 3 1/3 innings in relief. She surrendered just two hits and
no runs. She improved to 4-3 on the season while striking out
two.
Snow's two-run walk-off homer gave the Lady Railsplitters the
win in the opener.
Neidigh led off the game with a double to left-centerfield and
scored two batters later thanks to a single through the right side
by Swygert. Anderson added two more runs in the top of the second,
as Neidigh recorded an RBI-single through the left side and Abby
Child plated another run with a single into left-center.
Trailing 3-0, the Lady Railsplitters scored a run in the bottom
half of the third to cut into the Trojan lead. Dreier reached on an
error and came around to score on an RBI-double by Sarah Walz.
The Lady Railsplitters came up empty in the fourth and fifth
innings, however, they broke through in the bottom of the sixth
with two runs to knot the game at three apiece. Laura Taricano
sparked the rally with a lead-off single and Jordyn Wilson notched
a pinch-hit double into center field to put runners on second and
third with one out. Andrea Foster came on to pinch hit in the next
at-bat and she tallied an RBI-ground out to plate the first run of
the inning. Ashley Hanes capped the comeback with an
RBI-single.
Swygert led off the top of the seventh with a single, but the
Trojans were unable to capitalize. Dreier led off with a single and
Snow recorded her homer over the left-center field fence to propel
LMU to the win.

Lincoln Memorial 8, Anderson 3
Neidigh was 5-for-5 in the nightcap, added four singles and a
double while driving in two runs and scoring once. Junior Charlotte
Sieber was 2-for-4, with a pair of singles.
The Lady Railsplitters were led at the plate by the two-hit
outings of Brianna Mulkey, Dreier, Snow and Mudd.
Junior Lauren Bell (16-4) absorbed the loss for the Trojans,
giving up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits over six innings.
She struck out five and walked two.
Freshman Samantha Smith picked up the victory for Lincoln
Memorial, moving to 16-9 on the season after giving up seven hits
and one earned run in five innings of work. Kirstin Toole tossed
the final two innings for the Lady Railsplitters, surrendering
three hits and one earned run.
Neidigh led off the contest with a double and Danielle Swygert
walked with two outs, putting a runner in scoring position for the
Trojans in the top of the first, but AU was unable to
capitalize.
LMU recorded four hits in the bottom of the first to jump out to
a 4-0 lead. Brianna Mulkey, Kelly Dreier and Amanda Snow singled in
consecutive at-bats to lead off that inning, and Sarah Walz brought
the first run home with a fielder's choice. Laura Taricano was hit
by a pitch in the next at-bat to force another run home, while
Kirstin Toole and Cierra Mudd capped the scoring with a pair of
RBI-singles.
The Lady Railsplitters added another run in the bottom of the
second, as Mulkey, who reached safely on a one-out single, came
around to score on a Trojan miscue.
Anderson cut into LMU's lead with a run in both the third and
fourth frames. A wild pitch allowed Neidigh to score in the top of
the third, while Neidigh was responsible for the other run in the
fourth, as she recorded an RBI-single to left field to trim the
deficit to 5-2.
The Lady Railsplitters added three more runs in the fourth. A
pair of errors allowed Brianna Mulkey to reach safely and come
around to score, while Snow recorded her second home run of the
afternoon to score two more runs and extend LMU's lead back to
8-2.
Anderson returns to the friendly confines of Smethers Field on
Tuesday for a nonconference doubleheader versus Lander. First-pitch
is scheduled for 4 p.m.
