MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Anderson softball team swept a
doubleheader from Chowan, 6-5, and 15-2, Saturday afternoon at the
Chowan Softball Complex.
Anderson improved to 4-2 on the season with the sweep, while the
Hawks fell to 2-6 on the season.
The Trojans took an early lead by scoring five runs in their
first two at-bats, only to see Chowan rally in its next three
at-bats. Chowan trimmed the Anderson lead to 5-3 with a
third-inning home run and picked up a run in the fourth. The Hawks
tied the game in the fifth inning on an infield single, but
Anderson got the winning run in the sixth inning to hold on for the
win.
The Trojans banged out 13 hits, with sophomore Danielle Swygert
going 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI. Freshman Rachel Rhodes
added a pair of hits and an RBI, while senior Amber Duncan was
3-for-3 and recorded an RBI.
Freshman Larissa Ostapiak struck out six and earned her second
win in as many days by scattering eight hits.
Anderson pounded out 15 hits and held the Hawks to four hits in
the 15-2 nightcap, as freshman Jessica Neidigh went 5-for-5 and
posted three RBI. Duncan was also perfect, finishing with three
hits in three at-bats and an RBI. Freshman Bri Cason added a pair
of hits, including a home run and recorded five RBI.
Duncan also earned her second win of the season, while striking
out five and surrendering just four hits.
The Trojans travel to Meredith College for a doubleheader versus
the Avenging Angels on Sunday. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
at the Meredith Softball Complex.
