ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson baseball team dropped its second
consecutive contest to a Peach Belt opponent as the Trojans fell
8-0 to North Georgia Wednesday night at Anderson Memorial
Stadium.
Anderson (18-28) suffered its fifth consecutive setback, while
North Georgia improved to 23-15 on the season.
Anderson senior Justin Templeton (2-1) took the mound for the
Trojans in just his second start of the season and retired first
three Saints batters in the first inning, but the right-hander
struggled in the second inning. North Georgia's Chad Sage led off
the frame with a single. One out later, Templeton hit Brad Hall on
an 0-2 pitch to put runners on first and second with just one out.
An infield error allowed one run to score during the next at-bat
and left base runners at second and third. The next two Saints'
batters, Dustin Carpenter and Alan Fredriksson recorded RBI singles
to give North Georgia a 3-0 lead. A walk and an error made way for
three more Saint runs and the visiting team ended the top of the
inning with a 6-0 advantage.
After allowing runners on at the corners in the third inning
with one out, North Georgia starting pitcher Michael Patton (1-1),
was able to get a groundball that gthe Saints' infield turned for a
double play. After the inning-ending play, Patton set down the next
20 of 22 Trojan batters over the final six innings.
The Saints would touch Templeton for two more runs in the six
inning off of a walk and two extra base hits coming from
Fredriksson and Jordan Erison.
Templeton hurled six innings for the Trojans, giving up eight
runs off seven hits. The senior struck out four and only allowed
five earned runs. Marsh Kowalski, Roy Frick, and Reilly McDermott
all pitched an inning apiece, giving up no runs over the final
three innings.
Patton shined for the Saints, recording his first complete game
on the season as he allowed only three hits in the shutout.
Thomas Padro went one-for-one on the night, drawing three out of
the five walks issued by Patton.
Fredrickson went two-for-four, knocking in his seventh and
eighth RBI on the year. Erisman went two-for-four and Terrell Jones
went three-for five in the winning effort.
The Trojans have a day off before taking on Newberry College in
a South Atlantic Conference showdown starting on Friday. The
three-game series will be the last conference match-up before the
South Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament kicks off on
Wednesday. The first game is slated to start at 6pm on Friday and
the Saturday doubleheader will get underway at 1 p.m.
