ANDERSON, S.C. -- For the second time in as many days, the
Anderson softball team split a Conference Carolinas' doubleheader,
winning the first game of the twinbill versus Pfeiffer, 5-2, and
dropping the second game 3-2. Anderson moved to 17-13 overall and
7-3 in league play, while the Falcons' record went to 16-26 and
6-10. The opener saw the Trojans looking at a 2-0 deficit going
into the bottom of the fourth inning when a Cameron White double
tied the game at two, as the junior recorded her seventh and eight
RBI on the season, driving in Kinsley Durham and Amber Duncan.
Sophomore Amber Sutherland followed with a single that put the
Trojans ahead 3-2. Senior Meredith Knox led off the fifth inning
with a solo home run off the scoreboard in deep center field, her
sixth on the season. Two batters later Amber Duncan hit her seventh
homer of the season, another solo home run that put the Trojans up
5-2. Senior pitcher Katie Van Gieson completed the game for the
Trojans, giving up just two runs on eight hits. It was her fifth
complete game on the season, and second in two outings, and boosted
her record to 5-1. The Falcons led the nightcap 3-0 going into the
fifth inning until a two-out single by Sutherland paved the way for
an Elisa Sebastyan home run, the senior's seventh home run on the
season. In the sixth inning, Duncan posted a two-out double, but
the Trojans were unable to capitalize. In the bottom of the seventh
inning Sutherland hit a two-out single, becoming the tying run.
Sebastyan then hit a ball that carried out into right-center field
and looked as if it would be an RBI-single, but Falcons center
fielder Bryttny Kreshka made a diving catch that sealed the win for
Pfeiffer. The Trojans take the field again on Wednesday for a
conference doubleheader against Queens University. The first game
is set to get underway at 3 pm at Smether's field. Game 1 Box
