ANDERSON, S.C. - Paced by senior forward Trey Britton's season-high 24 points, the Anderson men's basketball team outpaced Georgia College, 82-74, in non-conference play Tuesday night at the Abney Athletic Center.

Anderson (3-3) wrapped up its grueling stretch of six games in 13 days by improving to 2-0 at home, while Georgia College (2-2) dropped its second straight contest.

The Trojans trailed, 37-35, at intermission but pulled even with 16:44 left in the game when junior Tyrell McDowell connected on one-of-two free throws. The contest was tied eight times over the next five minutes, with neither team able to build more than a two-point cushion.

Anderson took a brief 59-57 lead midway through the final half, but the Bobcats answered with a 7-2 run to push out to a five-point advantage at the 7:16 mark. But the Trojans erased the deficit less than two minutes later, as senior guard Oskars Ernsteins drained a 3-pointer from deep in the right corner to spark a comeback behind a 12-4 outburst by AU.

Following a jumper by GC's Ryan Aquino, AU's Kevis Cornwell hit two free throws to pull the Trojans within 64-66, and a steal by Ernsteins led to a 3-pointer by Britton from the right side that gave the Trojans a lead they would not surrender with 5:19 remaining.

Freshman guard Denzail Jones' trey from the left corner pushed Anderson's lead to 74-68 with 2:39 on the clock, the Trojan's largest of the night to that point. The Bobcats pulled within three with less than a minute remaining, but a slam and free throw by Britton pushed the advantage to 78-72 with 39 seconds left. The Trojans connected on 4-of-6 free throws inside the final 22 seconds to hold off the Bobcats, with the final margin being the largest lead of the night by either team.

Britton led all scorers with 24 points and recorded seven rebounds, while Ernsteins added 14 points on the strength of 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Cornwell, who was honored prior to the game for reaching 1,000 career points last weekend, netted 10 points and handed out a game-high six assists. Jones collected a team-high eight rebounds for the Trojans.

Four Bobcats reached double figures, with Jared Holmes scoring 16 points and dishing out as team-best three assists. Reece Wiedeman notched a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 10 boards and Andre Mikell added 13 points. Aquino netted 11 points for the Bobcats.

Following a six-day layoff, Anderson gets back on the hardwood when the Trojans visit Erskine on Tuesday for the second time this season. AU defeated the Flying Fleet, 79-69, on Nov. 17.
