ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson sophomore Taylor Shugart has been
named the Conference Carolinas men's basketball Player of the Week
during week number four of the 2009-10 season, as announced by the
conference office Tuesday afternoon. The 6-foot-7 center came up
big for the Trojans last Saturday, scoring a season-high 22 points
and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds en route to posting his second
double-double of the young season, as Anderson defeated UNC
Pembroke, 107-90. Shugart also blocked three shots and recorded two
steals in the Trojans' lone contest of the week. He connected on
his first seven shots from the field to help Anderson build three
16-point leads midway through the first half and finished by
hitting 10-of-12 (.833) from the field. His board work inside,
including seven second-half rebounds, helped thwart the Braves'
comeback efforts. "I'm very proud of Taylor," Anderson head coach
Jason Taylor said. "He's worked hard and played well. It's a nice
honor that's well-deserved and reflects on the entire program." The
Trojans now take their sparkling 5-1 record on the road for five
games, beginning with a visit to Peach Belt foe-North Georgia
tonight in Dahlonega. Tip-off versus the Saints is slated for 7
p.m. at Memorial Hall. Listen to the game live on ESPN Radio 1280
