WINGATE, N.C. – Anderson volleyball (12-2, 6-0 SAC) defeated Wingate University (8-4, 4-3 SAC) in four sets, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, on the road Tuesday night, marking just the second time in program history the Trojans have defeated the Bulldogs in Cuddy Arena. The first time was in the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional. With the win, Anderson extends their win streak and remains the only undefeated team in South Atlantic Conference play.
The Trojans and Bulldogs battled throughout the match, with Anderson taking the opening set 25-22. Wingate answered with a 25-23 win in the second set before Anderson closed out the match with back-to-back 25-21 victories. Anderson's defense at the net was a key factor, as the Trojans recorded a season-high 22 block assists.
Senior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) led the Trojans with 18 kills while hitting .341 and added four service aces. Sophomore Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) posted a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs, while senior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) added 10 kills, one solo block, and eight block assists.
Senior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) also recorded a double-double with 47 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) led Anderson defensively with 26 digs and added two service aces.
"What a great win to start our five match road swing through the top of the conference," said head coach Todd Hay. "I liked how we were able to play late in sets one, three and four when the score reached the twenties. Our block was big tonight and we hope to carry that effort going forward. It was definitely a tough match, as most road matches are, but I'm certainly proud of our team and the effort they put forth."
The Trojans travel to Catawba, N.C., to face Catawba College on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m.
