GREENWOOD, S.C. — The Anderson University women's golf team finished second at the Savannah Lakes Women's Tournament, posting a three-round team total of 877 at Monticello Golf Club.
Olivia Pellerin led AU with a third-place individual finish at 215 (+1), while
Sarah Martin tied for fifth at 216 (E).
"This was a really solid start to the season," said director of golf
Denton Moore. "I am really happy with the result this week. We always come to win, but a runner up finish to open the year is never a bad thing. I'm really proud of the effort this week. This is a very young and inexperienced team, and they looked exactly the opposite of that this week. They took the game plan and truthfully executed it to perfection as far as what to do, where to try to be on each hole, and eliminating big numbers. We did not chip and putt very well at all, and that kept us from winning. However, that is something that will come with time and development this season."
The Trojans posted rounds of 294, 288 and 295 as a team.
Pellerin placed third at 215 after rounds of 72, 72 and 71. Martin tied for fifth at even-par 216, highlighted by a 4-under 68 in the second round.
Olivia Roberts tied for 11th at 219, closing with a 1-under 71, while Lillian McDermott tied for 20th at 222 and
Ava Romansky finished 22nd at 223.
"
Olivia Pellerin was exceptional in the individual spot this week. She lead our squad in birdies along with Lillian, and was really good. She is off to a great start following her all American year last year.
Sarah Martin was absolutely exceptional this week in her freshman debut. Top 5 in your debut in a loaded field was just beyond what I could have hoped for.
Olivia Roberts just continues to pile up great finishes. She is one of, if not the most dependable players I have ever coached. I never have to guess what I'm going to get from her. All Americans do that. Lillian McDermott was awesome this week. She lead our team in birdies. She is going to be a great player here. She is off to a great start with a top 20 in her sophomore year."
"
Ava Romansky was really solid in her freshman debut as well. Top 25 finishes are hard to come by in your first event. She ball struck it maybe better than anyone we had this week.
Presli Webb is such a great addition to our program as a transfer. She was awesome this week, and I have super high expectations for her. She does a lot of things that you just can't teach. Again, top 25 in your first appearance for AU is a strong start!"
"I am really proud of the way the girls operated this week. They had great attention to detail, and executed really well. We just need to chip and putt better and this team is going to do some special things."
"We will take a day off, and then gear up to head to Dallas this weekend for a great event! Love this crew, Go Trojans!!"
Anderson makes the trip to Dallas Baptist's hosted tournament next week at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas, Texas.
