ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson volleyball (11-2, 5-0 SAC) continued its strong start to South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play, sweeping Mars Hill (7-7, 2-4 SAC) 25-10, 25-18, 25-14 in Abney Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans came out strong in the opening set, taking down the Lions 25-10 behind a .500 hitting percentage. Anderson led by as many as eight points in the second set on the way to a 25-18 win before closing out the match with a 25-14 third-set victory to complete the conference sweep.
Sophomore Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs. Senior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) chipped in eight kills, while junior Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) and senior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) each added seven.
Senior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) notched her second double-double of the weekend with 35 assists and 10 digs. Campbell also contributed at the net with two solo blocks and three block assists, while Reeves added a team-high five service aces.
"One of the things we discussed from last night was having better service pressure, " said head coach Todd Hay. "Overall, we felt like we did that even though there were several easy serves we need to eliminate. Once again our middles were always working hard to be available and close the blocks which is great to see. Hopefully we can take this momentum with us on the road over the next two weeks. Anderson begins a five-match road stretch, starting with Wingate University on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6:00 p.m.
