Anderson Battles Newberry in Four-Set Match

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Anderson volleyball (9-2, 3-0 SAC) hit the road Tuesday for its first South Atlantic Conference (SAC) road match of the season, facing Newberry College (8-3, 1-3 SAC). After dropping the opening set, the Trojans battled back to earn a four-set victory, 16-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-18, and remain unbeaten in conference play.

Anderson struggled to keep pace with Newberry's offensive attack in the opening set before the Trojans responded with a .238 hitting percentage in the second to even the match. The third set featured 19 ties and eight lead changes, but the Trojans edged the Wolves for a 26-24 win. The final set remained close early before Anderson closed the match on a 7-3 run to secure the victory.

Senior Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) led the Trojans offensively with 15 kills while hitting .389, followed by junior Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) with 14 kills and a team-best .583 hitting percentage. The Trojans totaled 16 block assists, with Campbell and senior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) adding five and four, respectively.

Nieporte recorded 47 assists and added eight digs, while sophomore Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) paced the Trojans with 20 digs. Sophomore Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) added 16 digs and eight kills, while senior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) contributed 11 kills and eight digs.
