Trojans Sweep Lincoln Memorial For 2-0 SAC Start

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson volleyball (8-2, 2-0 SAC) continued its home opening weekend, welcoming Lincoln Memorial University (3-4, 1-3 SAC) to Abney Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. The Trojans swept the Railsplitters, 25-13, 25-17, 25-18, to start conference play 2-0.

"Our focus level today was good and Ava [Reeves] set the tone in set one with an awesome service run. She's been working on that and it's becoming a little more consistent each week. Happy to see her hard work pay off," said head coach Todd Hay. "These two wins are a great way to start league play, but we know the conference schedule is long and unpredictable right now. It seems like any team can win on any given day and this league hasn't seen that in a few years. Thank you to our fans who came out and supported us today. Go Trojans."

Anderson dominated the opening set, leading by as much as 13 points. LMU battled closer in the second and third sets, but the Trojans pulled away for their first sweep of South Atlantic Conference (SAC) play.

Junior Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) led the Trojans with 15 kills and a .750 hitting percentage with three blocks. Senior Karley Black (Leander, Texas) and sophomore Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) both tallied 10 kills.

Senior Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) chipped in 37 assists and 11 digs. Hedlund and sophomore Kaleigh Garren (Anderson, S.C.) recorded nine and seven digs, respectively. Senior Ava Reeves (Lexington, S.C.) tied her career record with six service aces.

Hear from Todd Hay postgame:

Anderson heads to Newberry, S.C., to take on Newberry College on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6:00 p.m. for its first conference matchup on the road.
