HICKORY, N.C. -- The Trojans suffered a narrow 10-9 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne University (9-7, 6-3 SAC) on Saturday afternoon after a late comeback attempt was not enough to top the Bears. Anderson moves to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in teh South Atlantic Conference with the loss.
The Bears opened on a 2-0 run in the first five minutes before sophomore
Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) got her first of the day to put the Trojans on the bed and make it 2-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Freshman
Chloe Jones (Suwanee, Ga.) scored her first of the day to tie things up 30 seconds into the second quarter and Wilkins gave the Trojans a lead right after on an assist from sophomore
Ava Scattareggia (Latham, N.Y.).
Junior
Emma Toole (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) had her second-straight multi-goal game and made it 4-2 three minutes into the second quarter.Â
The Bears went on a 7-0 unanswered run before Wilkins broke the scoring drought with four minutes to play in the third quarter.Â
Anderson closed the game with a 4-0 run of their own with goals from Wilkins, Jones, Toole and sophomore
Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.) but were unable to complete the comeback by the final whistle.
The Trojans won the draw 15-6, led by Muir tied her season-high of eight draw controls. She added one caused turnover.
Senior
Jackie Tiongco (Memphis, Tenn.) grabbed three draw controls and two ground balls.
Sophomore
Edie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) had three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
The Trojans are back home on Saturday, April 18 when they host Emory & Henry for Senior Day at 3 p.m.
