ANDERSON, S.C.--The 17th-ranked undefeated Cougars handed the Trojans their first shutout loss of the season on Friday afternoon in Anderson's final non-conference match of the year.
The Black and Gold held their own in doubles play, but were unable to get the edge, dropping two courts 6-4 and 7-5 and winning one 7-6(8-6). Columbus State took the 1-0 advantage into singles play.
In singles, three Trojans went to three—Wynn Shioi (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Spencer Dorosheff (High Spring, Fla.) won their first sets, before dropping the second two, while Mathis Collignon (Les Pavillons Sous Bois, France) rallied from losing Set 1 to win Set 2 by a tiebreaker to force a third but ultimately came up short.
The Cougars returned to Georgia with a 7-0 victory.
Anderson now enters a 10-day break, before returning to SAC play with a trip to Coker on March 18.
