ANDERSON, S.C. -- The women's tennis team fell to Columbus State in a nonconference matchup on Friday afternoon 6-1. The Trojans are now 6-2 this spring.
The Cougars took all three courts in doubles. Junior
Elena Ronconi (Salta, Argentina) and senior
Grace Weaver (Lake City, S.C.) battled to a 7-5 loss at court one. Junior
Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman
Kate Johnson (Isle of Palms, S.C.) fell 6-2 at court two. Senior
Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) and sophomore
Ensley Collins (Cleveland, Tenn.) finished with a 6-4 loss at the No. 3 position.
In singles, Sompayrac scored the lone point of the day for the Trojans at the No. 2 position, winning the tiebreak 10-7 after splitting sets 6-4 and 7-6.
At court one, Braithwaite also went to the tiebreak but fell 6-2 in the third set.
Ronconi suffered 6-0 and 6-3 losses at court three.
At the No. 4 position, Collins fell 6-2 and 6-0.
Sophomore
Mara Opre (Atlanta, Ga.) lost 6-1 and 6-2 at court five.
Freshman
Westlyn Morris (Inman, S.C.) also fell 6-2 and 6-2 at court six.
The Trojans have a week off before getting back to conference play on Wednesday, March 18 when they head to Coker University for a 1 p.m. matchup.
