Box Score HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Trojans battled to a gritty 4-3 win over Coker University on Wednesday afternoon to move to 3-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Trojans lost the doubles point and were down on all but one court in singles before coming back to get the one point win.
"Girls fought hard after losing the doubles point to claim four of the six singles points," head coach
Joey Eskridge said. "Elena came through so clutch for us after giving up six match points to win 7-5 in the third. The girls fight and I am so proud of them for their effort on the court today.
Ensley Collins as well came back from a set down to keep the Trojans alive winning 6-4 in the third to get us our third point. We had No. 1-4 singles go three sets and won three out of four."
In doubles, junior
Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) and freshman
Kate Johnson (Isle of Palms, S.C.) earned a 6-2 win at court three.Â
In singles, four of the six courts went to a third set.Â
At court one, senior
Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) went up 6-3 before losing the second set 6-7. She won the third handedly at 6-1.
Junior
Elena Ronconi (Salta, Argentina) clinched the match for the Trojans at court three, going 5-7, 7-5 and 7-5 to get the win.
Sophommore
Ensley Collins (Cleveland, Tenn.) also went to three sets, falling 3-6 before winning the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4.
Freshman
Westlyn Morris (Inman, S.C.) earned quick wins at the No. 6 position, going 6-2, 6-2.
The Trojans continue their three-game week on Saturday, March 21 when they host Mars Hill at 1 p.m.
