No. 22 Trojans Fall To No. 13 Wingate Despite Late Comeback Attempt

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans suffered their first South Atlantic Conference loss of the season to No. 13 Wingate University (6-2, 2-0 SAC) on Wednesday night despite a seven-goal fourth quarter. Anderson moves to 6-5 overall and 3-1 in the SAC with the loss.

The Trojans went down early and were unable to regain a lead. The Bulldogs dominated the draw 23-8 leaving the Trojans low on offensive opportunities. They battled back in the fourth quarter, winning it 7-2 but were unable to close the gap.

Sophomore Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.) came up with five points in the top-25 matchup with four goals and one assist on six shots. She grabbed four ground balls and two draw controls with one caused turnover, and she went 1-1 at free position.

Junior Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) came up with a hat trick and went 1-2 at free position.

Sophomore Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) had two goals with one ground ball and one caused turnover.

Freshman Chloe Jones (Suwanee, Ga.) had a career-high two goals on three shots with three draw controls.

Junior Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) had her fourth goal of the season to round out the scoring for the Trojans.

On defense, senior Meredith Dawson (Beavercreek, Ohio) grabbed five ground balls with two caused turnovers.

Graduate student Rory Turner (Haverford, Pa.) and junior Amelia King (Dacula, Ga.) split time in goal and made four saves each.

The Trojans enter a 10-day break before returning to action on Saturday, March 28 when they travel to Catawba College at 12 p.m.
