Trojans Fall in Pair of Nailbiters

HICKORY, N.C. – The Anderson University (15-11) dropped both games of a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon at Durham Field, falling 4-2 in the opener before suffering a 5-4 setback in the nightcap.

In game one, Lenoir-Rhyne struck early with two runs in the first inning before adding a run in the third to take a 3-0 lead.

Anderson broke through in the sixth inning. Adams Faucett (Spartanburg, S.C.) reached on a walk before moving into scoring position. Braeden Harrison (Spartanburg, S.C.) followed with a double, and later in the inning Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) lifted a sacrifice fly to bring home a run. Harrison later scored in the frame to trim the deficit to 3-2.

The Bears added an insurance run in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 4-2, and Anderson was unable to mount another rally over the final three innings.

Harrison finished with a hit and a run scored, while Brooks Mauro (Clemson, S.C.) and Riley Matthews (Waxhaw, N.C.) each recorded hits for the Trojans.

On the mound, Cole Davis (Simpsonville, S.C.) delivered a strong outing despite taking the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out nine across six innings. Luke Parson (Tampa, Fla.) worked two scoreless innings in relief and recorded two strikeouts.

In game two, Anderson built an early lead but Lenoir-Rhyne rallied late to claim a 5-4 victory.

The Trojans opened the scoring in the second inning when Wells drove in a run with a base hit. Anderson added another run in the frame to take a 2-0 lead.

Lenoir-Rhyne responded with a run in the third inning before Anderson extended the lead in the fourth. Levi Medford (Canton, N.C.) delivered an RBI double and later came around to score, giving the Trojans a 4–1 advantage.

The Bears chipped away with a run in the sixth before pushing across the tying and go-ahead runs later in the inning to take a 5–4 lead.
