ANDERSON, S.C. -- The women's tennis team improved on their perfect fall season with a 7-0 win over USC Sumter to keep the streak going into the spring.
"Girls played well today but we saw some areas where we need to need to improve before we start conference play but overall we looked really strong 1-6 today," head coach
Joey Eskridge said. "Proud of the girls for the effort and attitude on the court today."
The Trojans earned the doubles point with wins at all three courts. Junior
Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior
Grace Weaver (Lake City, S.C.) opened with a 6-4 win at court one. Senior
Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) and junior
Elena Ronconi (Salta, Argentina) came up with a big 6-1 win at court two while sophomore
Ensley Collins (Cleveland, Tenn.) and freshman
Kate Johnson (Isle of Palms, S.C.) earned a 6-2 win at court three.
All six courts of singles won their matches in two sets. Sompayrac led the way at the No. 1 position with 6-1 and 6-2 wins.
Braithwaite had a perfect day at the No. 2 position with two 6-0 victories.
Ronconi came up with two 6-1 wins at No. 3.
Collins dropped just one point, going 6-0 and 6-1.
Sophomore
Mara Opre (Atlanta, Ga.) came in to fill the No. 5 position with two perfect 6-0 wins.
Johnson rounded out the day with 6-0 and 6-1 victories.
The Trojans are back in action next Thursday, February 12 when they head to Erskine College for a 2 p.m. matchup.
