Trojans Open Spring Season With 7-0 Win Over USC Sumter

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The women's tennis team improved on their perfect fall season with a 7-0 win over USC Sumter to keep the streak going into the spring.

"Girls played well today but we saw some areas where we need to need to improve before we start conference play but overall we looked really strong 1-6 today," head coach Joey Eskridge said. "Proud of the girls for the effort and attitude on the court today."

The Trojans earned the doubles point with wins at all three courts. Junior Gigi Sompayrac (Knoxville, Tenn.) and senior Grace Weaver (Lake City, S.C.) opened with a 6-4 win at court one. Senior Alexandria Braithwaite (Oakville Ontario, Canada) and junior Elena Ronconi (Salta, Argentina) came up with a big 6-1 win at court two while sophomore Ensley Collins (Cleveland, Tenn.) and freshman Kate Johnson (Isle of Palms, S.C.) earned a 6-2 win at court three.

All six courts of singles won their matches in two sets. Sompayrac led the way at the No. 1 position with 6-1 and 6-2 wins.
