Trojans Cruise to 18-2 Win Over Coker in SAC Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Trojans earned a statement win in their South Atlantic Conference opener on Tuesday afternoon, cruising to an 18-2 victory over Coker University (0-1, 0-1 SAC). The Trojans move to 1-1 overall with the win.

"Happy to start conference play with a win on the road," head coach Nicole Voci said. "Coach Faulkner is doing a great job with the Coker program and I look forward to seeing their success this season. We will enjoy the win today, and tomorrow we will lock in on game three."

Three Trojans had hat tricks in the win and eight got on the board. Anderson went 18-19 on clears on the day and held Coker to just 15 successful clears out of 28 attempts. The Trojans forced 30 turnovers from the Cobras and limited their own to 19. They had 37 shots and 27 on goal, with 14 ground balls. They won the draw 16-5 and went 4-7 from free position.

Sophomore Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.) had four goals on the day with one in the first and last quarter and two in the second. She got off seven shots with six on goal and was 1-2 from free position. Muir led both sides with five draw controls. 

Sophomore Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) also came up with four goals and added two assists for six points. All six of her shots were on goal and she had one caused turnover and one draw control.

Junior Jerianne Morris (New Port Richey, Fla.) earned her first career hat-trick, scoring five minutes into the third quarter and closing out the scoring for the Trojans with their final two goals in the 7th and 12th minutes of the fourth quarter. 

Sophomore Sophie Shortino (Webster, N.Y.) had her first two goals with the Trojans on three shots. She picked up one ground ball with one draw control and one caused turnover.

Junior Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) also had two goals after going 2-2 at free position. She forced two caused turnovers and picked up one ground ball. 

Junior Emma Toole (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.), junior Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) and junior Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with one goal each. Toole and Cannon each added an assist while sophomore Ava Scattareggia (Latham, N.Y.) and junior Emery Robson (Marietta, Ga.) also each added an assist. 

Cannon also came up with three draw controls and one ground ball. 

On defense, sophomore Edie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) forced a team-high four caused turnovers. 

Graduate student Rory Turner (Haverford, Pa.) and junior Amelia King (Dacula, Ga.) split time in goal, Turner made two saves while King made one.

The Trojans are back home on Saturday, Feb. 7 when they host Belmont Abbey at 7 p.m.
