Trojans Earn First Ranked Win of the Season, 16-8 Over No. 20 Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- The Trojans earned a comeback win over No. 20 Lander University (0-1) on Thursday afternoon by a 16-8 scoreline. Sophomore Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) exploded with a career-high seven goals as the Trojans won the third quarter 9-1 to secure the win. Anderson moves to 3-1 on the season with the win.

"I'm proud of the way we turned things around in the third quarter," head coach Nicole Voci said.  "There's something special about this team and I am excited for us to continue to elevate."

The Trojans out played the Bearcats in every statistical category, including a season-high 18 draw controls to Lander's eight. Anderson was 16-16 in clears and put up 28 shots with 14 on goal.

Anderson went up first with Wilkins getting her opening goal in the fourth minute of play, assisted by sophomore Ava Scattareggia (Latham, N.Y.). The Bearcats answered quickly and won the first quarter 3-1.

The Trojans put up three more before halftime with goals from Wilkins, sophomore Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.), sophomore Sophie Shortino (Webster, N.Y.) but went into the locker room down 6-4 after the Bearcats put two away just before halftime.

Anderson went on a 4-0 run to start the second half, with junior Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) getting on the board while Shortino added another and Wilkins buried another two.

Freshman Chloe Jones (Suwanee, Ga.) got her second goal of the season to start another run of goals from the Trojans late in the third quarter. Muir, Skeffington and Wilkins each added another goal while senior Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) finished out the third quarter with her first of the day in the final second to extend the Trojans' lead to 13-7.

Wilkins put away her final two of the day while Muir completed her hat trick in the final quarter to secure the win for the Trojans.

Wilkins converted seven of her eight shots on goal, going 2-3 from free position and adding three draw controls and two ground balls.

Muir continued her dominance on both sides of the ball with a team-high five draw controls. She had five points on the day with two assists alongside her three goals.

Shortino added an assist for three points and grabbed two draw controls and two ground balls.

Skeffington had four points on the day with two assists.

Cannon added three draw controls to her goal.

Sophomore Edie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) came up big on defense with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Graduate goalkeeper Rory Turner (Haverford, Pa.) came up with five saves in goal and added three ground balls and one caused turnover.
