CLEMSON, S.C. – Anderson University Men's Track and Field team rewrote the program record book while recording 14 personal bests at the Orange & Purple Invitational hosted by Clemson University on Thursday and Friday.
The Trojans competed among top Division I Track & Field programs in the region including Clemson, Alabama, Florida State, South Carolina, Kennesaw State, Georgia Tech, Troy, Queens (N.C.) Charleston Southern and Coastal Carolina.
Crossing the line first in a field of 29, graduate student
Spain Vaughan (Greer, S.C.) broke Anderson's Indoor 3k record with a personal best time of 8:11.12. Vaughan time qualifies him for the NCAA Division II Indoor National Championships. Sophomore
Brayden Anderson (Yakima, Wash.) also set a new program record in the men's 400m, finishing with a time of 49.16.
Also on the track, senior
Joey Tindale (Rock Hill, S.C.) placed in the top 10, finishing 8
th out of 33 with a personal best mile of 4:07.59 for a national provisional time.
In the men's 800, freshman
Gavin Malloy (Harrisburg, N.C.) finished 16th out of 25 with a personal best time of 1:54.74 with freshman
Nate Powell (Johnson City, Tenn.) following shortly behind with a career best time of 1:55.59 to finish 19th. Freshman
Harrison Knight (Greenville, N.C.) also set a new personal best in the 500 clocking a time of 1:56.71 to finish 21st.
Three more career best performances were recorded in the men's 3k with senior
Angel Galan (Santa Martes De Tormes, Spain) finishing 12th in a field of 29, posting a time of 8:27.95 before sophomore Will Cronin (Lexington, S.C.) finished two spots behind for a time of 8:29.16. Junior
Jack Barrett (Greenville, S.C.) crossed the line 24th, stopping the clock at 8:44.73.
In the men's 800, junior
Cullen Ussery (Kershaw, S.C.) broke his own personal best time, recording 50.42.
Junior
David Brown (Menomonie, Wis.) and junior
Jordan Gross (Chester, Va.) raced their career best 60m hurdles with times of 8.91 and 9.07 finishing 18th and 20th respectively.
For field events, freshman
Avery Butler (Seneca, S.C.) set a new personal record in both events with weight throw measuring in at 12.43m and a shot-put distance of 13.38m.
The Black and Gold remain together when they travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the Camel City Sprints/Camel City Distance at the JDL Fast Track on Friday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb 7.
