MCCORMICK, S.C.--Anderson Men's Golf opened their fall campaign with a 9th-place team finish at the Savannah Lakes Invitational, Lander University's home tournament. Trojan junior Sam McMillan (Mount Pleasent, S.C.) led the Black and Gold, finishing 7th in the field individually with a score of 69-72-73—214(-2). 

"A lot of positives to come this week for the guys!" said Head Men's Golf Coach Daniel Coker. "Sam played very well all week with a Top 10 finish, and it was great to see our freshmen post some good scores as well." 

McMillan opened the tournament with a Trojan-best three-under first round. He combined ten birdies and an eagle to finish two-under through three rounds. 

Opening their collegiate careers, freshmen Caden Olsommer (Anderson, S.C.) and Hugh Faulkner (Greenville, S.C.) finished second and third for AU, landing 30th and 36th on the leaderboard respectively. Olsommer shot six over on the competition, followed by Faulker at eight-over. 

"We felt like we played better golf than our final score showed," added Coker. "We will look to clean up those mistakes for next week in Georgia and are looking forward to a tough test." 

The Trojans look to next week (Sept. 15-16), when they will travel to Gainesville, Ga. for North Georgia's home tournament, the Mizuno Intercollegiate.
