Trojans Get First SAC Win With Sweep Over Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- The Anderson volleyball team got a quick three-set win at Coker University (6-6, 2-2 SAC) on Friday night by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-22. The Trojans move to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the SAC with the win.

"I was pretty pleased with our overall performance," head coach Todd Hay said. "The focus and attention to some of our smaller details were definitely there. We got a little loose in set three with some low swings and missed serves but still found a way to win. It's always tough to win in conference on the road so we are very happy to get this one."

The Trojans were steady throughout the match with 14 kills in each set, swinging .211 with a game-best in the second set of .323.

Anderson allowed just one lead change through the final two sets, despite dropping their hitting percentage.

Sophomore Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) had her third-straight game in double digits with 12 kills to lead the Trojan offense. She added two blocks.

Freshman Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) was right behind her with 11 kills.

Sophomore Maura Kindel (Easley, S.C.) came up with seven kills and zero errors for a career-high .583 hitting percentage. She matched her career-high of three blocks and was just one kill short of her career-high as well.

Freshman libero Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) had her first career double-double with 10 assists and 11 digs along with two aces.

Junior setter Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) also had a double-double, distributing 28 assists with a team-high 14 digs.

The Trojans stay on the road as conference play continues when they take on Mars Hill University on Tuesday, Sept. 30th at 6 p.m.
