ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Trojans welcomed fans to the Abney Athletic Center for the first time this season with a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 25-19) win over Converse University on Tuesday night. Anderson finishes nonconference play with an overall record of 5-4 after the win.
Junior setter
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) hit a career milestone with 1,500 career assists after dishing out 52 on the night.Â
"I want to thank all the Trojan volleyball fans for coming out tonight. What a great crowd," head coach
Todd Hay said. "With the exception of the end of set two, our passing was pretty good for the most part. This allowed Ellie to distribute the ball and allow us to have a balanced offense. The defense got better as the match went on and that was good to see."
The Trojans seemed in control early, holding a lead for the entire first set with a .286 hitting percentage and 3.0 total blocks.Â
The second set saw four lead changes as the Trojans were unable to hold a six point lead and fell 26-24 after a late comeback by the Valkyries. Sophomore
Jacey Olsen (Aberdeen N.C.) knocked down six of her ten kills in the second set.Â
They turned things around in set three, swinging a game-best .351 with 17 kills. Anderson was up to 8.0 total blocks as a team through the first three sets.Â
The Trojans knocked down 18 kills in the fourth set to get the win, with sophomore
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) adding six.Â
Elder had a career-high night of 14 kills, swinging .321 and 3.0 blocks.Â
Junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) came up with 13 kills, a team-high five blocks and two aces.Â
Freshman
Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) added 11 kills.Â
Senior
Katy Smith (Fleming Island, Fla.) had a season-high 14 digs to lead the defense.Â
The Trojans get back to conference play this Friday, Sept. 26Â when they head to Coker University.Â
