FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Trojans rallied from a 2-0 deficit to complete the reverse sweep and get their first five-set win of the season against Emmanuel University on Saturday afternoon 3-2 (22-25, 17-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-12). Anderson and Emmanuel both move to 4-4 overall with the result.
"It was great for the team to find a way to win a tight match," head coach
Todd Hay said. "We've been close this year but couldn't quite make it happen. I am really proud of their resilience and how our reserves helped us when they were called upon to do so. We look forward to seeing everyone for our home opener on Tuesday."
This is the second straight season the Trojans got a five-set win over the Lions. Anderson had to get gritty to pull it off, going down 24-21 in the fourth set with their backs against the wall and going on a 5-0 run to force the fifth set.Â
The Trojans hit at a .216 clip, improving through the last three sets to as high as .379 in the fifth. Fourteen of the Trojans' 15 points in the final set came from kills, finished out by junior
Emily Campbell (Statesville, N.C.) with a monster swing to finish things off.Â
Campbell led the Trojans with 13 kills to tie her season-high on a .385 hitting percentage.Â
Freshman
Mikaylah Hedlund (Fountain Inn, S.C.) came up with her fifth double-double of the season with 13 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Junior
Mia Elder (Leland, N.C.) added 12 kills.
Sophomore
Jacey Olsen (Aberdeen, N.C.) came up with eight kills through three sets with just two errors.Â
Freshman
Jamie Juhnevicz (Taylors, S.C.) and junior
Ellie Nieporte (Boca Raton, Fla.) came up with 12 digs each while Nieporte had 35 assists.Â
The Trojans are home for the first time this season this Tuesday, Sept. 23rd for a 7 p.m. match against nonconference opponent Converse University.
