NEWBERRY, S.C. -- The Trojans fell short in their regular season finale, suffering a 12-10 loss to Newberry College on the road. Anderson finishes the regular season with an overall record of 10-7 and a SAC record of 8-3.
The game was a defensive battle on both ends, with goalkeeper
Amelia King (Dacula, Ga.) making a career-high 12 saves while the Trojans forced 18 saves from the Wolves defense.
The Trojans had seven free position opportunities to the Wolves 13, and went 16-17 in clears while Newberry was 18-20.
The first quarter ended with the Trojans down 3-1, with
Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.) putting away the first goal of the day with 30 seconds to play.
The Trojans scored seven in the second quarter to rally for a tie going into the locker room at 8-8.
The Wolves won the entire second half 4-2, with neither team able to gain offensive momentum.
Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) and
Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) each put up a hat trick in the win.
Edie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla,) added two goals while Muir and
Emma Toole (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) added one each.
Muir had another stellar defensive performance with seven ground balls, six caused turnovers and six draw controls. Toole picked up five draw controls and two ground balls.
The Trojans will play in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships this Saturday, April 26th with details to be determined.
