Cole Davis Dominates as Anderson Rolls Past Southern Wesleyan, 14-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team delivered a complete team performance on Tuesday night, cruising to a 14-1 win over Southern Wesleyan at Anderson Memorial Stadium behind a masterful outing from Cole Davis.

Davis (2-0) turned in the most efficient start of his season, tossing a complete-game seven-inning effort while allowing just four hits and one run. The junior left-hander did not walk a batter and struck out one, facing only 23 hitters and using just 65 pitches to close out the game. Davis retired the side in order in four different innings and induced 13 ground outs, commanding the strike zone from start to finish.

After a quiet first inning, Anderson exploded for five runs in the second. Ben Bullard started the scoring with an RBI double before Dom Bello followed with a run-scoring single. Brayden Owens laid down a sacrifice bunt to bring in another run, and Braeden Harrison capped the inning with an RBI double. A defensive miscue allowed the fifth run to cross the plate.

Southern Wesleyan scored its lone run in the third, as Luke Taylor tripled and came home on a single from Harrison Garrett. But Davis responded by retiring the next ten Warriors in order.

Anderson continued to add insurance throughout the game. Bello scored on a wild pitch in the fourth, and Owens came home on a sacrifice fly from Kyle Caccamise. In the fifth, Bello tripled and scored on a single from Bryce Helms, who later drove in another with a second RBI knock.

The Trojans put the game out of reach with a four-run sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple from Brooks Mauro and RBI hits from Bullard and Owens. Bello finished the night 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs, and three runs scored. Bullard added two hits and two RBIs, while Owens also contributed a pair of hits and drove in two.

With the victory, Anderson improves to 23-19 on the season. The Trojans return to South Atlantic Conference action later this week as they travel to Newberry to take on the Wolves in a three-game series.
