WINGATE, N.C. -- In their fourth nationally-ranked contest of the season, the Trojans suffered an 18-8 loss to South Atlantic Conference leader No. 16 Wingate University. The Trojan offense got stifled in the second and third quarters while the Bulldogs put up consistent numbers throughout the game. Anderson moves to 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the SAC.
"There is a huge difference between seniors and underclassmen and our youth really showed today," head coach
Nicole Voci said. "We played too much defense and came up short offensively. We are excited to get back to it next week and to keep learning and growing."
The Trojans split their eight goals evenly between the first and fourth quarters. The two teams were evenly matched in turnovers but the Trojans struggled at the draw, grabbing 10 while the Bulldogs picked up 19. Anderson also struggled in transition, going 14-21 in clears.
Edie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) and
Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) put up three goals each, a career-high for Edie while Ellie tacked on an assist in her seventh hat trick of the season.
Ava Scattareggia (Watervliet, N.Y.) and
Emma Toole (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with one goal each.Â
On defense,
Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.) came up with three draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
Edie Wilkins picked up four draw controls while
Meredith Dawson (Beavercreek, Ohio) had a career-high four caused turnovers and four ground balls.
The homestretch begins for the Trojans with just three regular season games remaining beginning when they head to Emory & Henry University on Wednesday, April 16.Â
