ANDERSON, SC -- The Trojans came up with a gritty 16-15 win in overtime over Emmanuel University on Wednesday night to hand the Lions their second loss of the season. Freshman

"I'm really proud of the team for the way we battled tonight," head coach
Nicole Voci said. "After a long weekend on the road, there's no doubt that we showed a lot of grit. Our freshmen stepped up big time on the offensive end and the juniors on defense kept the spark alive. Emmanuel is a very well-coached team with some serious talent. This is a great win for us that prepares us very well for conference play."
The Trojans opened the scoring, going on a 3-0 run with goals from
Jackie Tiongco (Memphis, Tenn.) with her first goal of the season,
Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.), who came up with a career-high four goals, eight ground balls and two caused turnovers, and
Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) who tied her career-high five goals on the night. The Lions then went on a 4-0 unanswered run to take the lead. Muir tacked on another late in the first quarter to tie things up at four.
Emmanuel was in control of the second quarter from the start, winning it 5-2. Skeffington put up her second of the day while Scattareggia opened her scoring just before the half.
The Trojans bounced back in a big way in the third quarter, winning it 7-3. Skeffington, Scattareggia and
Ellie Wilkins (Chuluota, Fla.) came up with two goals each while Muir fired in the seventh.
The final quarter was a defensive battle as Emmanuel got a narrow 3-2 edge to force overtime. Skeffington and Muir added another goal each.
Goalkeeper
Amelia King was huge for the Trojans all game, coming up with 11 saves including a crucial stop with 30 seconds to play in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Scattareggia called game at the buzzer, burying a free position shot for her fourth goal of the night.
The Trojans head back to Florida for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, March 11th at 1 p.m. when they take on Palm Beach Atlantic University.
