LENOIR CITY, Tenn. -- The Trojan men's golf team finished out the regular season at LMU's Tennessee River Rumble this week, finishing 7th in a field of 20 teams.
"Overall a pretty solid week," said Head Men's Golf Coach Austin Castles. "Definitely continuing to head in the right direction. The third round conditions were really challenging because of the wind, but I'm proud of the way the guys handled it for the most part. We still have some small things to clean up, but anytime you're competing and going shot-for-shot with some of the best teams in the country, it means you're doing something right."
The Trojans were led by senior Jamie Markwick (Bishop's Waltham, Eng.) who boasted his personal best score while repping the Black and Gold, finishing two-under for a 3rd-place finish of 100 golfers. Markwick carded back-to-back rounds of 70(-2) on Day 1, followed by a 74(+2) third round to end 214(-2), securing an All-Tournament finish.
"Jamie was phenomenal this week," added Castles. "He had his best performance of his career as a Trojan, finishing T-3rd."
Fellow Trojan senior Simon Wright (Lancaster, S.C.) finished 11th overall, shooting 69-71-78 to round at the tournament at 217(+1).
"Simon had a really solid performance in a great field. Really love the player he has continued to develop into. Jamie and Simon in the first two rounds were really as good as anyone in the 100-player field. That was the last regular season event for those guys, and I can't tell you how much they will be missed."
Freshman James Parsons (London, U.K.) continues to grow his play this season, carding 77-72-74—223(+7) to finish 34th in the field.
"Another bright spot was James. He was big for us in rounds two and three."
The Trojans look to build momentum from the week, as the South Atlantic Conference Championships await in three weeks.
"Next up is the conference championship, and we'll continue to prepare for that when we get back. We'll take all the positives we can from the last two weeks and do our best to put it together for a postseason run. Lastly, big shout out to Coach Denton Moore this week. Always huge to have him travel with us, and I give him a lot of credit for the successes we had this week."
