Trojans Competitive; Drop Doubleheader to No. 11/21 Carson-Newman

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University Trojans battled hard but came up short in both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Carson-Newman, falling 5-4 in the opener and 9-2 in the nightcap at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Trojans now hold a 17-13 overall record and a 6-9 mark in South Atlantic Conference play.

Game One: Carson-Newman 5, Anderson 4

Anderson nearly staged a comeback in the first game but fell just short in a one-run loss. The Eagles jumped ahead early with a run in the first and another in the second. Anderson responded in the fifth when Braeden Harrison launched a solo home run to left field. Kyle Caccamise followed with a double, and Zach Stover drove him in with a single to even the score at 2-2.

Carson-Newman retook the lead in the sixth with a pair of runs, but Anderson fought back. In the seventh, Carson Molinaroli reached on an error, advanced to third on wild pitches, and scored on Harrison's sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit to 5-3. The Trojans pulled within one in the eighth after Brooks Mauro tripled and Ben Bullard drove him in with a groundout. However, Anderson couldn't push across the tying run in the ninth.

Joshua Legnard (4-2) took the loss, allowing four earned runs over six innings while striking out seven. Jacob Ingram tossed three innings of relief, surrendering one run.

Game Two: Carson-Newman 9, Anderson 2

The Eagles' offense surged in the second game, using a five-run fourth inning to take control. Anderson struggled to generate offense early, but in the fifth, Brayden Owens singled and later scored on a wild pitch to get the Trojans on the board.

In the seventh, Anderson added another run when Braeden Harrison delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home Carson Molinaroli. However, Carson-Newman's pitching held strong, preventing further damage as the Eagles secured the sweep.

Walker Case (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing five runs (one earned) over 3.2 innings. The Trojans managed seven hits, with Ben Bullard and Carson Molinaroli each collecting two.

The Trojans have the midweek off this week before welcoming in the Bulldogs of Wingate University to Anderson Memorial for a three-game series starting on Friday, March 28.
