ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University baseball team showcased their offensive prowess in a commanding 11-3 victory over Wingate University at Anderson Memorial Stadium. The Trojans improved their record to 18-13 overall and 7-9 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC), while Wingate fell to 15-16 overall and 10-9 in the SAC.
The game began with Wingate taking an early lead in the first inning, but Anderson quickly responded in the third inning when Braeden Harrison hit a solo home run to left center, tying the game at 1-1. The Trojans took the lead in the sixth inning as Zach Stover singled, stole second, and was driven in by Ben Bullard's single to right field, making the score 2-1.
In the seventh inning, Anderson added another run to extend their lead to 3-2. Shane Thomas reached on an error, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on Braeden Harrison's triple down the left field line. The eighth inning saw the Trojans explode for eight runs, effectively sealing their victory. Key hits in this inning included a two-RBI single by Carson Molinaroli, a two-RBI single by Braeden Harrison, and a two-RBI double by Zach Stover. Additional RBI singles from Bryce Helms and Dom Bello contributed to the offensive onslaught.
Corben Childers earned the win for Anderson, improving his record to 3-3. He pitched 2.2 innings in relief, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out four. Walker Noland started the game, pitching 6.1 innings and giving up two runs on five hits with five strikeouts.
The Trojans will look to continue their winning ways as they round out their conference series with Wingate tomorrow in a doubleheader slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
