LAKELAND, FL -- The Trojans faced their second nationally-ranked opponent of the season on Sunday in No. 3 Florida Southern, who came into the game on two weeks of rest with a 2-0 record. The Mocs took the win 18-2 as the Trojans move to 1-3 on the season.
"Florida Southern was the better team today," head coach
Nicole Voci said. "Their program has seen continued success in the top 10 over many years. Playing them was a great experience and will help us this year, as well as in the near future for our rapidly growing program. We have to play the best to be the best, and we certainly did that this weekend. We are excited to get up, take what we learned, and come out stronger next game."
The Trojans were 15-15 in clears but struggled in offensive production. The Mocs put away five man up opportunities as the Trojans were called for nine penalities.
Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) gave the Trojans some early momentum with her 12th goal of the season, tying the game at one from the stick of
Ava Scattareggia (Watervliet, N.Y.). Skeffington was unable to get on the board again and the Trojans would be held scoreless until the fourth quarter.
Megan Muir (Bedford, N.H.) scored the second goal of the day for the Trojans, her sixth of the season, assisted by
Brooke Kelley (Anderson, S.C.).
Goalkeeper
Amelia King (Dacula, Ga.) came up with eight saves and picked up five ground balls.
The Trojans are back home this Wednesday, March 5th to host nonconference opponent Emmanuel University at 7 p.m.
