RICHMOND, Ky. – The Anderson University women's golf team put on a dominant performance to capture the team championship at the Findlay Spring Invitational, held at Boone's Trace National Golf Club. The Trojans finished at 3-under-par, edging out second-place Findlay (+4) to claim the top spot among a competitive field.
"This was a fantastic team win, and it was led by the best player to ever put on the Trojan gear," said director of golf Denton Moore. "Again this week the conditions were cold and brutal on Monday. Today was great weather finally, but 15-20 mph winds, and Boone's Trace is a wide open track with nowhere to hide when the wind kicks up. The girls were awesome this week and really put together a gutsy effort."
"We have a lot of respect for Dom and his program at Findlay. We have battled them so many times, and this week was no different. It came down to the wire and I'm very proud of our crew for sneaking out of there with a W."
Leading the way for Anderson was Kennedy McGaha, who delivered an outstanding tournament performance with rounds of 66, 67, and 71 to claim 1st place individually. Zoey Iglesias followed closely behind, securing 2nd place with rounds of 73, 69, and 70. Their exceptional play set the tone for the Trojans' victory.
"Kennedy McGaha is one of the very few players I have coached that when she turns it on, there just aren't many players that can catch her. She took this tournament over and played some of the best golf I have ever witnessed. Zoey Iglesias was the best player in the field this week, not named KMac. She was lights out and had a fantastic runner-up finish. She was rock solid from start to finish."
Kennedy Gooding provided a steady presence, finishing in 8th place with rounds of 74, 74, and 74. Paige Paolucci turned in a strong showing, tying for 14th place with rounds of 77, 74, and 74, while Aly Francis made a key contribution with a final-round 72 to finish in 25th place after previous rounds of 78 and 72.
"Kennedy Gooding, Aly Francis and Paige Paolucci were all great as well, and did an amazing job helping get this team win over the top."
Competing as individuals, Olivia Pellerin fired a third-round 76 to finish tied for 14th place following earlier rounds of 79 and 70. Erin O'Brien rounded out Anderson's contingent, placing 46th with scores of 79, 80, and 82.
"Really proud of Olivia this week in the individual spot. She had a fantastic second round and continues to show some really good signs of what kind of golf is ahead of her. Peyton had a solid week as well as the other individual and is gaining some really valuable experience."
"We are gonna get home, enjoy this one for a bit, and then get ready for a monster event down in Boca Raton against one of the best fields we will see. It will be great preparation for the postseason. Love this crew and appreciate all their hard work! Go Trojans!"
