Sparks on Fire as Trojans Trump Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Trojan sophomore Cole Sparks (West Islip, N.Y.) paved the way for the Trojans' fifth win of the season, boasting a career-high six goals and three assists for nine points in Anderson's 21-14 victory over Lander on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans traveled to Greenwood for the final non-conference game of the season, looking to avenge last season's 14-13 overtime loss to the Bearcats.

Sparks picked up the first goal of the game not two minutes into play to kickstart the Trojan offense. He went on to tally two more in the first quarter, along with goals from Ryan Bitterman (Alpharetta, Ga.), Radyn Badraun (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and PJ Fenchak (Lutherville Timonium, Md.). AU won the quarter 6-3.

"We shared the ball very well today and did a great job off the ground," said Head Coach Albert Mitchell. "Really proud of the effort of the team from top to bottom."

Will Hazelhurst (Greenville, S.C.) joined the scoresheet in Q2, snagging his first of two goals on the afternoon to record his second brace of the season. The Black and Gold carried a 9-6 lead into halftime.

Badraun opened the scoring in the second half, going on to secure his third four-goal game of the campaign. Bitterman contributed a hattrick on the day, continuing his season-long streak of scoring three or more goals per game. An explosive seven-goal Q3 pushed the Trojans to a lead unmanageable for the Bearcats.

Trojan goalie Adin Laughlin (Wooster, Ohio) added nine saves to his season resume, facing 42 Bearcat shots. Anderson completed 21-23 clears successfully and won 18-37 faceoffs. The Trojans collected 41 groundballs and capitalized on 2-4 extra-man opportunities.

"Excited to refocus on conference play with the first mid-week of the season next week."

Coming up, AU faces their first two-game week of the season, traveling to Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday (March 19) and Tusculum on Saturday (March 22).
