NEWBERRY, S.C. -- The Trojans suffered a late season setback as the Newberry Wolves came back in the last five minutes of play to secure the 78-73 win. Anderson moves to 15-12 overall and 11-12 in the South Atlantic Conference, where they remain in seventh place despite the loss.
"Tough night on the road tonight," head coach
Jimmie Williams said. "Hats off to Newberry for a big win in front of a good crowd on senior night. Coach Kirkland has done a great job. Tonight we just couldn't string enough stops together in the second half. We'll get it fixed and get geared up for a big one Saturday. I love this team."
The Trojans struggled offensively, shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 19.2 percent from deep. They still held a lead for the entire game, however, until the last five minutes after the Wolves went on a 13-4 run after tying things up at 59 to secure the win. Newberry won the second half 51-43.
Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) led the offense with 17 points and eight rebounds.
Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) was just behind him with 16 points.
Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Fla.) came up with 12 points and four rebounds while
AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) dropped 10 points.
The Trojans have one game left of the regular season before the South Atlantic Conference Championships as they head to Tusculum University on Saturday, March 1st for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
