ANDERSON, S.C. — Anderson women's basketball (19-9, 15-7 SAC) pulled away in the second half to defeat Emory & Henry (7-22, 2-21 SAC), 76-58, on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.
"What great day to celebrate our seniors," boasted head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "Really proud of how well they were connected."
"I thought we played a little slow in the first half, but got it going well in the 3rd and 4th," explained Barbaree.
"Another huge game for Diamond both inside and out with scoring and holding down the defensive boards," noted Barbaree. "Zee also flirted with another triple double per usual helping to ignite the offense."
"It was a great year playing at home in front of our fantastic fans." added Barbaree. "We really appreciate all of their support all season long."
The Trojans outscored the Wasps 42-24 in the final two quarters to secure the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) victory.
Senior Diamond McDowell led AU scoring a game-high 27 points and 13 rebounds. The senior forward shot 10-of-23 from the field and added five free throws. Zamiya Passmore provided a strong all-around performance with 19 points, seven assists, and four steals.
The Wasps kept the game close early, trailing by just one after the first quarter and by two at halftime. Breanna Yarber paced the Wasps with a team-high 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Hannah Spainhour and Rhyan Harris chipped in nine points apiece.
Anderson took control in the third quarter, outscoring Emory & Henry 19-11, before sealing the win with a, 23-13, fourth quarter. The Trojans capitalized on their defensive pressure, scoring 21 points off turnovers and netting 24 fast-break points. They also outscored Emory & Henry 38-30 in the paint.
The Black and Gold shot 41.7% (30-of-72) from the field, while Emory & Henry finished at 34.3% (23-of-67). The Trojans benefited from 27 bench points.
Anderson will finish regular season play with a two-game road swing with its first stop at Newberry on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
